Health and Detox Lecture by Dr. Jim Said
This is an ongoing lecture series about our health, what it is, how we lose it, and how we gain it back. Dr. Said defines “health” not merely as the absence of physical symptoms. To him, health is a far broader subject that deals not only with our bodies, but also with how we interface with other equally significant factors. Yes, the care of our bodies is very important, but we are more than a body and we do not live our lives in isolation. We interface with the natural world and its resources, upon which our lives are dependent for sustenance. Additionally, we each have a “self” that uniquely defines who we are, with a character shaped by how we respond to the many forces in our lives, whether they be physical, emotional, psychological, relational, or spiritual. We also share our lives with other people – with our spouses, children, extended families, friends, colleagues, work partners, employers, employees, acquaintances, and the relational world at large. How we manage our relationships and experience intimacy further both defines and characterizes who we are and what spirit we represent to the world. Ultimately, we are each connected to our Creator in a relationship that begs our attention and understanding. Perhaps this last relationship has the deepest effect on our health, and most significantly defines how we experience and interface with all other relationships.
In this series, Dr. Said begins with the most basic understanding of health, and gradually and sequentially builds a deepening view of how we can build health throughout our lives, in our bodies, in our homes, in all our relationships, and with our Creator. The lectures tackle the difficult situations that we face every day of our lives, in every facet of our life experience, and provides real tools and ways that we can cooperate with the healing process, with each other, and with our Creator, to manifest a life befitting of the purpose for which we were created.
This current series of lectures is about our relationship to our own bodies. Here Dr. Said discusses how our bodies handle stress, and its effect on the GI system, immune and nervous system, and body posture.
Lecture will be held August 10 at 7:00 pm at the Orofino Country Store.

Organizational Meeting for Gluten-Free or Celiac Group
An organizational meeting for a new support group for people with a gluten intolerance or celiac disease is set for 6:30 PM, Wednesday, June 21, at the Orofino Country Store, 206 Johnson Avenue, in downtown Orofino.
Gluten is a natural substance found in members of the wheat and barley family, and used as a additive or thickener in many canned and baked goods. However, up to 40% of the population tests as sensitive to gluten, partly due to over-saturation in our food supply.
The most extreme form of gluten intolerance is known as celiac disease, and affects 1 in 133 people. Symptoms may include recurring digestive tract problems (bloating, heartburn, IBS), memory loss (often diagnosed as Alzheimers), underweight, and many others. Research shows that only 1 in 20 people with this disease are accurately diagnosed in the US.
The organizational meeting will discuss scheduling of meetings and format (e.g. evening or lunch meetings, potlucks, recipe sharing, product alerts, restaurant options, etc).
If you would like to participate, but cannot make the meeting, please email: OrofinoStore@Gmail.com or call Malcolm, (208) 874-3509. You may also leave your contact information at the store.
